Frugal times

Thinking about Grandma Emma this morning, asking myself, what would she be doing to be frugal now? In her lifetime frugality was the only way to live and make ends meet. She knew every price of everything she purchased. No credit or debit cards, only cash dollars. No phone app to scan at the store, only her calculation in her own mind. Wonder if she would have liked to have a phone to help her?  She would know the price of her groceries sometimes within pennies..Truly remarkable! Think we should all keep learning to use our brains more...and put the phones away. Thanks Grandma...

Grandma Emma...

Everyday Grandma Emma would start the day with two cups of coffee with milk. A slice of toast with butter and jelly and one small cookie. Day after day, the same breakfast. She really enjoyed that morning breakfast and routine. She said the coffee got her moving as she got older. Looks like she was right on with that information. Now our medical society tells us that coffee in moderation is good for us. She had that inner sense and was able to understand how life worked together. She so enjoyed her coffee... just as many others in the family do also.

Grandma Emma and Summer days...

Grandma Emma always loved to be out in the yard walking in the soft wind, blue skies and warm sunny days of mid summer. One of her favorite sayings:  The more you walk, the better you walk and the better you walk, the more you walk. She believed this and practiced her walking each and everyday. Walking kept her in good shape! and most importantly her spirit. She always felt a burst of energy after her daily walk in the yard. Something I try to do everyday. Makes good sense. She was a wise woman woman of the world.

Our angel, Grandma Emma...

In times of desperation I always asked Grandma Emma what she would do in a specific situation. She would listen carefully and then offer advice. It was always correct. She was a wise and thinking person, taught from a young age to make the best of any situation she was dealt. All of her young years she kept learning those important life lessons that carried her through her life. Wisdom and knowledge still exist and did then also. The women today should have those life lessons as they are still so very valuable. Life is precious and giving. We all need to practice situational awareness.  Ideas change everyday, but the basics of life still exist, a home, food, medicine, clean air, good water. But most important...Love, kindness and decency in a society. Thank you Grandma for your words of wisdom.

Grandma Emma...

Grandma Emma had a special christmas tree she would put up in her living room every year. She had a department store box filled with her ornaments and other holiday decorations. It was always about the same. But very colorful and nice! She would sit in her favorite chair watching her tree and the television every evening... I often think of this at Christmas time... the tree was so enjoyed by grandma Emma and Grandpa Einar. Memories....

Being Frugal...

Yes, being frugal is a good way of life... Grandma always practiced "Frugality" and I do also. It has saved my bank account many times!   I'm so glad she taught us well!   S.
