Grandma Emma...

Grandma Emma had a special christmas tree she would put up in her living room every year. She had a department store box filled with her ornaments and other holiday decorations. It was always about the same. But very colorful and nice! She would sit in her favorite chair watching her tree and the television every evening... I often think of this at Christmas time... the tree was so enjoyed by grandma Emma and Grandpa Einar. Memories....

Being Frugal...

Yes, being frugal is a good way of life... Grandma always practiced "Frugality" and I do also. It has saved my bank account many times!   I'm so glad she taught us well!   S.

Grandma Emma's days, continued.

My mind was wandering as I stood in the garden watering some newly planted bamboo and peppermint. Thinking of all the good advice I received from Grandma Emma on tending the garden. She always had a carefully chosen answer. Most of the time it was based on the frugality of life, even garden life. Turning the soil, filling it with leaves and mulch. Always adding just the right amount of water. Turns out she was correct most of the time. Even now I use those simple garden practices to achieve my goals for a working and delightful yard. Thanks Grandma!   S.

Grandma Emma's Roses...

Today as I was walking in the garden, my thoughts were of Grandma Emma. I looked at the newly blooming roses, pink peace,  fragrant cloud, olympiad and so many others. Her favorite flowers were Roses. The delicate scent and the soft colors were so enjoyed on a spring day in her yard in Mukilteo. She always waited for the first blooms of spring with a smile...good days.

Grandma Emma's love of Flowers...

Grandma would walk everyday in the yard. She could always be seen walking the driveway and surrounding lawn area. If the sun was out she would also sit in a chair, rest and then walk a little more. In the spring she would always stop by her favorite flowers...the Rose garden. She delighted in sharing a moment with the beauty of her roses. We would carefully clip, trim and add fertilizer to the soil so they would produce many blossoms. She especially thought the Red rose brought love and thought to any garden. Fragrant and soft, the scent of the rose would fill the spring air. A true delight for the afternoon walk of Grandma Emma. Good memories.
